Which layers make the SLD reviewable?
Keep the main paths visually clear, then add the tags and references needed to coordinate schedules, studies, layouts and controls.
| Layer | Show | Review |
|---|---|---|
| Sources | Utility and standby inputs | Boundaries identified |
| Conversion | Transformers and UPS systems | Ratings supplied |
| Distribution | Switchboards, buses and feeders | Paths traceable |
| Bypass | Approved alternate paths | Operating intent referenced |
| Loads | Destinations and interfaces | Schedule tags aligned |
Which standards can inform the project basis?
TIA-942 addresses telecommunications infrastructure for data centers and includes electrical infrastructure within its scope. Uptime Institute's Tier Standard: Topology addresses infrastructure topology and performance requirements. NFPA 70 is the US electrical installation code. Apply the editions and requirements selected by the project and authority having jurisdiction.

What remains an engineering decision?
Topology, capacity, fault duty, protection, selective coordination and safety compliance require the responsible engineering team. Engineering sign-off is performed only by the registered engineer responsible for the job.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Does an SLD prove a Tier level?
No. A drawing alone does not certify a facility or establish conformance with an Uptime Institute Tier classification.
Should every conductor be shown?
No. The SLD represents circuits in simplified form. Detailed wiring belongs in schematics and schedules.
Who approves the topology?
The responsible engineering team approves the topology. A drafting service records the approved intent.
